MINUTES

  1. Introductions
  2. Disclaimer-Secretaries have no input in the LCME review
    1. Nothing about today’s conversation goes forward to the LCME from here
  3. Comparability
    1. When schools have had compliance issues regarding comparability, it’s not typically about regional campuses (most being new are very attentive to comparability); it’s more often an issue for affiliate locations or even different rotations at same campus.
    2. All students should have the same learning opportunity (learning objectives and educational experience) and the same access to support services (e.g. advising)
      1. Example: general surgery vs. burn surgery; ok if students all have comparable core rotation
      2. There will always be some places that need work but we need to have a plan in place to identify and correct inequities; don’t want to have chronic offenders
    3. A ‘central committee’ should be looking at this comparability
      1. We should have proof of discussions on this topic by the central committee
    4. Electives and selectives won’t be held to comparability, only “graduation requirements”
  4. 2 Faculty Appointments
    1. If they are grading (as an individual or as a team), then they should be have a faculty appointment.
    2. Significant teachers should have an appointment.
  5. 1 Curricular Management
    1. We need a ‘policy’ that states that we review the courses at a periodic time both individually and the curriculum as a whole;
  6. 2 & 8.3 Use of Medical Educational Program Objectives & Curricular Design, Review, Revision/Content Monitoring
    1. Keywords become important
    2. Need a systematic process to monitor topics throughout the year via a committee
  7. 7 Formative Assessment and Feedback
    1. We need a means to let the students know where they are ½ way through a course. There can be mid-course summative assessment but there must be mid-course formative feedback. This can be in the form of a formative exam, quizzes, questions, etc.
